خلاصه داستان : 2 سال پیش، دوست میتسوکی کویاما، ایچی ساکورای قبل از این که بتونه احساساتش رو به اون اعتراف کنه به آمریکا نقل مکان کرد. با این که نمیتونه باهاش تماس بگیره، به هم قول دادن که به رویاشون برسن: میتسوکی میخواد یه خواننده حرفه ای بشه و ایچی یه اخترشناس. ساکورای امیدواره که موسیقی اونو جهانی. یه مشکل هست: میتسوکی از سرطان ریه رنج میبره که باعث میشه صداش آروم باشه و خوانندگی براش سخت. مادربزرگش که از موسیقی متنفره، اصرار داره که میتسوکی بیخیال موسیقی بشه که سرطانش درمان شه، ولی اون حتی به قیمت از دست دادن صداش هم این کار رو نمیکنه. یه روز، دو شینیگامی - مروکو یویی و تاکوتو کیرا - ظاهر میشن و بهش میگن که فقط یه سال برای زندگی براش مونده. این انقلاب ناگهانی باعث این میشه که میتسوکی عمل کنه و با کمک مروکو تاکوتو، اون در زمان باقی مونده یه خواننده حرفه ای بشه. این انیمه داستان احساسی میتسوکی و دوستای شینیگامیش رو معنی خواننده شدن - و در نهایت زندگی رو دنبال میکنه...
